YAKIMA, WASHINGTON

YAKIMA, WASHINGTON

In the heart of Washington State is the Yakima Greenway, with nearly 20 miles of trails, pathways, and parks, all connected by the water that is the Yakima River.

The Greenway is a triumph of heart and an oasis for the diversity of our Valley to enjoy. A collaboration and vision that began four decades ago continues today as a new generation of leaders imagine the power of the Greenway as a place where people come together for fellowship and natural connection. The Yakima Greenway is a Gift.

The Yakima Greenway has endured through many seasons, including the pandemic, providing a literal and figurative playground for our community, especially as we’ve stayed close to home. Our open spaces and trails have, and always will be, here for all of us—as long as we take care of them.

Maintaining these spaces takes time, attention, and dedication. It also requires financial support—and we need you. We need to reinvest in the Greenway so we can preserve this oasis and continue to offer a safe and accessible area to all who visit.

Fresh air, moving our bodies, and connecting with nature will always positively impact people of all ages and walks of life. It’s why we say the “Gift” of the Greenway. It gives back: connecting us, restoring us, and inspiring us. Join us.

Our Goals

It takes investment today to make sure this natural asset is restored, rejuvenated, and ready to thrive for the next forty years, as we hope to:

  • Weave the Greenway more fully into the fabric of our community;

  • Identify critical resources for protection and restoration;

  • Strengthen cooperation from local, state, and federal agencies and organizations; and

  • Address critical improvements needed throughout the corridor.

Our Needs

Today, the Gift of the Greenway seeks to raise $8 million to renew this special place, for now and for the future. We look to you, our friends, to help us as we work to raise funds to:

  • Update the 40-year-old Master Plan for future sustainability and ongoing support;

  • Upgrade equipment for long-term stewardship and maintenance;

  • Make improvements to security, parking, pathways, and recreational assets for increased community enjoyment; and

  • Update community facilities to promote a welcome space for gatherings and events.
